White Horse Beer Re-Launched in Centenary Year to Commemorate Wanderers’ Heritage
A special commemorative beer which pays homage to one of Bolton Wanderers’ most significant moments in its long and distinguished history will be going back on sale at the University of Bolton Stadium from this Saturday 5th November as we play in the first round of the FA Cup in what is the centenary year of the ‘White Horse Final’.
Produced by local brewery Bank Top, in conjunction with us here at Bolton Wanderers in the Community, the popular ‘White Horse’ will be on sale in bottles on matchdays in hospitality boxes and will also be available at Bolton Stadium Hotel Bar.
And what’s more, £1.00 from every sale will be donated to Bolton Wanderers in the Community to help support our work across the Bolton community. Now how satisfying is that!
‘White Horse’ encapsulates the story of the 1923 FA Cup Final – the first to be held at the old Wembley Stadium – during which Bolton Wanderers beat West Ham United 2-0 to pick up the first of their four FA Cup trophies.
But that doesn’t quite tell the whole story.
The final is best remembered for the striking image of ‘Billie’, a white horse mounted by PC Scorey, helping to keep order when thousands of spectators from a reported attendance in excess of the 127,000 capacity spilled onto the pitch.
CEO of Bolton Wanderers in the Community, Phil Mason, said: “I’m delighted that we are re-launching this exclusive beer in what is the centenary year of one of the club’s most memorable moments.
“The White Horse final, as it became known, is part of the fabric and folklore of English football which helped to set Wanderers on the way to a trophy-laden decade.
“However, the role played by Billie and PC Scorey helped to prevent potential disorder when thousands of fans entered the playing area due to the sheer size of the crowd that day.
“We are absolutely thrilled that Bank Top Brewery are supporting Bolton Wanderers in the Community by donating proceeds from each sale.
“I’d also like to thank the team at Portfolio Design for their support in bringing this project come to life.”
