Premier League Kicks Pre-Match Hate Crime Awareness Workshop

Tuesday 28th January, Bolton Wanderers in the Community welcomed participants to the Wellbeing Hub, supported by Vital Energi, for a Hate Crime Awareness Workshop before joining the team to watch BWFC take on Northampton Town. Ran in conjunction with Greater Manchester’s Hate Crimes Awareness Week the session looked at improving the participants understanding of what Hate Crime is and why it is important to report it.

Participants aged 12-17 from BWitC’s Tuesday evening Premier League Kicks session were encouraged to discuss the impact of hate crimes on individuals and communities, on both victims and perpetrators, and reflected on times they had been judged or stereotyped baselessly. The session aimed to ensure young people across Bolton walked away with a greater understanding of the consequences of Hate Crime and how to report it.

We would like to say a special thank you to John Au from Stop Hate UK who delivered the workshop on Hate Crimes and Bolton Fund for supporting the charity in running the session through their funding.

BWitC’s Premier League Kick’s Session uses the power of football and sport to inspire young people across Bolton to reach their potential. Through Premier League funding BWitC creates opportunities, such as the Hate Crime Workshop, to enhance the physical and mental well-being of young people across Bolton providing pathways into education, training and employment. Our charity offers sessions all over Bolton, covering Kearsley to Farnworth, guaranteeing that our impact is as positive and widespread as possible. We continue to provide the young people of Bolton access to free weekly football sessions and education workshops in safe and supportive community environments. Our sessions are mixed ability and open to all.
