Huge Success for First Charity Away Day Cycle

Saturday 1st March, 14 cyclists braved the 60mile challenge to cycle from BWFC’s Toughsheet Community Stadium to Wrexham AFC’s STōK Racecourse, raising around £2,500 to support the work our charity does across Bolton.

The team met at 5am on Saturday 1st March in preparation for their 6am set off to make it to Wrexham’s AFC’s STōK Racecourse ready for BWFC to take on Wrexham AFC for the 12:30pm kick off. The team were supported on the way down by Skyblue Adventures and we would like to say a special thank you to Mark Leyland, Paul Reeve and their support team, who led the ride and supported our cyclists on their ride.

A highlight of the day was the 37 mile stop off point in Chester where the cyclists were greeted by BWFC First Team’s Head Coach Steven Schumacher, coaching staff and players before heading onto the Players Coach for refreshments supplied by BWFC First Team Chef James Berry. Both players and cyclists wished each other luck before the cyclists set off for the final stretch to Wrexham.

Richard Slater, BWitC’s Head of Community, reflected on the event “We would like to thank everyone who helped to make BWitC’s first charity away day cycle possible. Events like these show how we can utilise the power of our club to help support the work we do and it was great to see the team come out to support the cyclists on their journey down. Funds raised by our cyclists are vital to supporting our charity continue the work we do across Bolton.”

We would like to say a thank you to all the people and organisations who supported our charity cycle. A special thank you to Leasing Options for providing vehicles for us to transport the cyclists and bikes back to the stadium and Applied Nutrition for supplying Body Fuel drinks to help keep cyclists fuelled throughout the challenge.

We would also like to thank the team at The Miners Project, where our cyclists crossed the finish line, for their hospitality and supporting the team with spaces to change and store equipment, Wrexham University for allowing the cyclists to use the showers and to Wrexham AFC Foundation for assisting with the logistics of the finish line.
