Huge Success for Charity Abseil
On Sunday, 15th September 2024, local residents, councillors, and Bolton Wanderers legends gathered to take on our annual Charity Abseil. Despite the unpredictable weather, an impressive 62 participants faced the 90 ft descent down the East Stand of the Toughsheet Community Stadium, to raise vital funds to continue the work our charity delivers across Bolton.
A special thanks goes to B2B Workwear and Janitorial for sponsoring our event as well as all the participants, including Bolton Wanderers legend John McGinlay and the Mayor of Bolton, Andy Morgan, who joined the challenge. Even Bolton Wanderers’ mascot, Lofty, couldn’t resist taking on the descent with enthusiasm in support of BWitC.
Among the abseilers was a team from Beaumont Primary School, bringing along 16 dedicated students and teachers. The school raised funds for themselves and our charity, showcasing how our events can support our wider community.
Reflecting on his experience, Bolton Wanderers legend John McGinlay shared his excitement:
“I’m glad I’ve done it. It looked a bit ominous when you looked over the edge but once you actually got on it, it was good, it was really good, it was enjoyable. What a good experience”
The Mayor of Bolton, Andy Morgan, who proudly supports BWitC as one of his Mayoral Charities this year, echoed the importance of the event:
“Bolton Wanderers in the Community is one of my Mayoral Charities this year and they do some amazing outreach work with some of the harder to reach groups through the club and through the football. It’s really important because we need to involve everyone in the journey through Team Bolton, so that’s why I’m here, to raise as much money as we can for the cause”
Following his descent, the Mayor encouraged future participation, saying, “It was really good, really safe. I would encourage anyone to come along next time and do it because it’s raising money for a good cause”
Richard Slater, Head of Community at Bolton Wanderers in the Community, reflected on the event “The turnout on Sunday helps us continue our mission of using the power of BWFC to inspire, support and deliver positive change across the Bolton community. Everyone involved from participants, staff and those donating from afar, your support for our event helps in continuing the work we do in our local community”
