Bolton Wanderers in the Community named Community Club of the Season – All other Leagues at the Northwest Football Awards

The Club’s official Charity won the award for their continued and unrelenting drive to support the communities of Bolton most in need of help.

The Northwest Football Awards are an annual event that recognises and celebrates footballing excellence in the Northwest region. From grassroots to elite level, the awards highlight the outstanding achievements and contributions of individuals, clubs, and communities within the footballing community.

More than 500 guests from across the football world attended the star studded event, hosted by broadcasters, Eilidh Barbour and Dion Dublin, at The Point at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester. Winners were crowned in a range of player categories, as well as in a raft of other honours for clubs and communities.

Last year BWitC delivered 27 projects across Bolton, targeting communities and individuals that experience the most inequalities. Engaging with the Town’s diverse community, from children as early as 5 years old, through to older adults in their mid-90s, their work focuses on themes including disability, mental health, employability, cohesion, equality, diversity and inclusion and wellbeing.

Highlighted was the Charity’s response and support for those effected by the cost-of-living crisis, BWitC delivered free activities and lunches to children that are on free school meals, provided the vulnerable and those experiencing fuel poverty a free warm space to attend, provided advice and guidance on smart meters and offered free opportunities to bring communities together to connect with one another.

Neil Hart, Chief Executive Officer at Bolton Wanderers said: “We are immensely proud of the outstanding work that Bolton Wanderers in the Community is delivering in our town on a daily basis.

“Last night’s victory speaks volumes about Phil Mason’s incredible team and the impact they are having on the lives of thousands of people.

“Through a seamless and joined up approach, we will continue to work in close collaboration as Club and community, and we look forward to marking this fantastic achievement on the pitch at half time during our fixture against Blackpool this weekend.”

Speaking after winning the award, BWitC Deputy CEO, Ben Lawton said “We are all absolutely delighted to win this award in what was a strong category with six other Club Charity Organisations shortlisted.

“Through the passion and dedication of our staff and volunteers, the Charity has shown that the impact a Football Club can have on the community goes beyond the pitch. Winning the Northwest Football Award for Community Club of the Season is a testament to the commitment of our Football Club and the community it serves.

“We’d like to thank our Trustees and partners for their continued support. We would also like to thank our amazing staffing team for their hard work and effort to make positive change in our community.

“We are not just a Football Club; we are One Club, One Community, One Town.”
