Bolton Community Run Officially Launched
Bolton Wanderers FC’s players helped to launch the inaugural Bolton Community Run 10K event, which will see thousands of runners starting and finishing at the Toughsheet Community Stadium on the Sunday 28th April, taking part in the run for fun, personal challenge or to raise funds for charity.
Aaron Morley and Will Forrester gathered to officially launch the 2024 event alongside key run partners.
Aaron Morley said: “It’s great for us to be able to come down today to support the community and help them to launch the 10K run. I’m sure it will be a brilliant event and that the fans will get their trainers on to support the many charities which will benefit.”
Working in partnership with Bolton Wanderers FC, Bolton Council, Bolton CVS and Burnden Road Runners, Bolton Wanderers in the Community, who are organising the 10K hope the run will encourage the Bolton community to get more active, provide an opportunity for increased community engagement and to support local charities across the town.
Bolton Wanderers Chairman, Sharon Brittan said: “We are extremely proud and excited to launch this new key event in Bolton’s calendar.
“We want to make sure our Club is a platform for good in our town and community, and so we are delighted to be able to host this event which will provide the opportunity to not only offer people a personal challenge but also to raise funds for a local Bolton charity close to their heart.”
Runners are able to raise funds for any charity that they choose to support, which includes running and raising funds for Bolton Wanderers in the Community, who work with and support over 15,000 Bolton residents every year.
Bolton Council Chief Executive, Sue Johnson, said: “I know the amazing Bolton community will be out in force again to cheer all the runners on the 10km route.
“We know what this race will mean to all those local runners, whether experienced or running for the first time, so we are looking forward to another memorable sporting day in our town.
“As a council we are always working to bring in more events, which is why we want to support the Bolton Community 10K Run and help showcase the very best of Bolton.”
Open to runners of all abilities, participants will start at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, travel up De Havilland Way, where they will merge onto Chorley New Road heading towards Bolton, before returning up Chorley New Road to finish at the stadium. The route is chip timed and a closed road route.
To enter the run will cost individuals £26. If runners are looking to run for a charity, they are encouraged to check with the charity first in case they have already purchased their own places.
